Effect of Self-Compacting Concrete and Aggregate Size on Anchorage Performance at Highly Congested Reinforcement Regions

چکیده

At highly congested reinforcement regions, which is common at beam-column joint area, clear spacing between parallel bars becomes less than maximum normal aggregate size (20mm) which has not been addressed in any design code and specifications. Limited clear spacing between parallel bars (herein after thin cover) is one of the causes which affect anchorage performance. In this study, an experimental investigation was carried out to understand anchorage performance of reinforcement in Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) and Normal Concrete (NC) at highly congested regions under uniaxial tensile loading. Column bar was pullout whereas; beam bars were offset from column reinforcement creating thin cover as per site condition. Two different sizes of coarse aggregate were used for NC (20mm and 10mm). Strain gauges were also installed along the bar in some specimens to understand the internal stress mechanism. Test results reveal that anchorage performance is affected at highly congested reinforcement region in NC with maximum aggregate size 20mm whereas; SCC and Small Aggregate (10mm) gives better structural performance. Keywords—Anchorage capacity, bond, Normal Concrete, self-compacting concrete.

An Experimental Study on Effect of Waste Tire Rubber on the Fresh and Hardened Behavior of Self-compacting Concrete

The development of environmentally accepted methods of used tire disposal is one of the greatest challenges that waste management experts face today. Use of waste rubber particles as aggregate in self-compacting concrete is a suitable solution for the environmental hazards of waste tires being produced on a large scale. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the size of waste r...

Rapid Chloride Permeability Test on Self-Compacting High Performance Green Concrete

Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is one of the most significant advances in concrete technology in the last two decades. SCC was developed to ensure adequate compaction through self-consolidation and facilitate placement of concrete in structures with congested reinforcement and in restricted areas. Marble Sludge Powder (MSP) can be used as filler and helps to reduce the total voids content in co...

Investigating properties of fresh and hardened self-compacting concrete made of recycled aggregates

Self-compacting concrete is a new high performance concrete with high ductility and segregation resistance. In recent years, construction material manufacturers have focused their attention on lightweight concrete and have strived to use lightweight concrete, if possible, in load-bearing parts of buildings. Concrete with both self-compacting and lightweight properties is favourable in this cont...

Self-Compacting Concrete - Procedure for Mix Design

Self-compacting concrete is a fluid mixture suitable for placing in structures with congested reinforcement without vibration. Self-compacting concrete development must ensure a good balance between deformability and stability. Also, compactibility is affected by the characteristics of materials and the mix proportions; it becomes necessary to evolve a procedure for mix design of SCC. The paper...
